It’s not news that organizational transformations are prone to failure. That’s because the road is littered with failed transformation programs. This begs the question: In today’s dynamic environment, what are the keys to successful transformation?

EY and Oxford University formed a research collaboration to find out. Together researchers investigated what it takes to lead a successful transformation.

On October 19, in a live, interactive Harvard Business Review webinar, two of these researchers—Andrew White from Saïd Business School and Adam Canwell of EY—shared findings and insights from their research into successful transformations. They discussed:

  • What makes transformations successful or unsuccessful
  • Why the workforce bears the brunt of failed transformations and how to prevent this
  • Seven steps for a successful transformation
  • How to set up a transformation for success by focusing on emotionsincluding the emotions of both employees and leaders

Leaders today are expected to deliver continual, rather than episodic, transformation. Transitioning to this state requires new leadership skills, organizational structures, processes, and KPIs. It also requires leaders who can bring everything together to operate successfully in this new paradigm of constant transformation.
